About the teacher
  • English Week Europe provides week-long English conversation courses to primary schools, secondary schools, and gymnaziums.

Ray Sikorski (USA)

Since his first English Weeks in 2009, English Week Europe teacher/owner Ray Sikorski has now taught more English Weeks than any teacher in Slovakia.  He credits this experience, in which he has taught thousands of Slovak students, for creating a English Week experience known for quality, reliability, and overall excellence.

Prior to becoming an English teacher, Ray Sikorski worked throughout the United States doing jobs as varied as bike messenger, sawmill worker, mandolin-maker, and ham salesman.

Originally from Long Island, New York, Sikorski moved to Montana after graduating from Tufts University with a degree in English. Admidst pursuing his childhood dream of becoming a writer, Sikorski did odd jobs, including bike messenger, mandolin-maker, and waiter in Yellowstone, Grand Teton, Denali, and Glacier National Parks. After publishing a collection of stories, he focused on journalism. He worked as a writer/editor of a weekly newspaper in Sonoma, California, and later as a freelance writer. His articles have appeared in dozens of publications, including The New York Times.

Sikorski eventually decided on a life change, and achieved the Cambridge CELTA certificate to become a teacher of English as a Foreign Language. He started teaching in 2009 in Szczecin, Poland, but his attraction to mountains drew him the following year to Slovakia, where he has had plenty of opportunities for hiking, biking, skiing, and photographing bus shelters. He lives with his wife Katka and daughter Sara in Dolný Kubín, Slovakia.
